Its not often I can say I have a kitchen or home tip. So listen carefully.
I used to never have a problem with leftovers. Hubby would find them and eat them before they had a chance to go bad. Only now we're a little older, and he's realized its not such a good idea to eat a full meal when he gets home from work late late late at night.
I started finding stuff in my fridge and couldn't remember when I'd made it. Not wanting to serve my kids penicillin, out of necessity I figured, eh, screw it, I would just write the date in permanent marker on the side of the container. After all, they were those take-n-toss type containers (though we use them until we loose them). I could just cross off the date later and scribble a new one next to it.
Only it seems that you can easily "erase" that permanent marker once the containers are washed!
Observe:
Container fresh out of the fridge complete with "made on" date.
Similar container just out of the dishwasher. Date is still apparent.
Next, take your dish towel and rub at the markered date. Voila!

Good idea! Thanks. Do you know that I work with someone who says their hubby won't eat leftovers? What advice do you have for her???
Nice. I'm the leftover eater at my house. *sigh*
Hey, I am going to try that for sure! We waste leftovers around here a lot more than I'd like.
