Heart breaker

nick

My sweet four-year-old has had the ability to bring me to tears lately.

A lot.

Last week:

Nick: MOM! Daddy took us to the park today and we hit home runs and runned around the bases!

Me: Wow, sounds like fun!

Nick: Yeah. And we had hot dogs for a picnic. You should be there with us next time.

Oooh -- my heart!

Yesterday afternoon:

Jay: Nick, tomorrow you have swimming lessons. Maybe we'll hang out and all swim together in the small pool after your lessons.

Nick: YAY! That would be really really fun. William too?

Jay: William too.

Nick: And Mommy?

Me: Sorry buddy. Mommy has to work.

Nick: Oh. But you should not work sometimes and come swimming with us instead.

Oooh - twist the knife, why dontcha?

And then last night, tucking him in before bed:

Me: Buddy, when did you get so big?

Nick: Cuz I did. And them I'm going to be five. Sometime, I'll be as big as you!

Me: Will you still love me when you're as big as me?

Nick: Yep.

Me: What will you be like when you're as big as me?

Nick: Tall. And I'll do stuff.

Me: Will you have kids?

Nick: Yep. I'ma be a Daddy.

Me: You know, that would make me their Grandma!

Nick: NOOOOOO! {wailing} I don't want you to be the Grandma!!! You be the Mommy!!!

Oh, my sweet sweet boy. I'll always be your Momma.

Sometimes it's so hard to work! Annalyn cries some mornings when I'm trying to leave - tears me up. I've figured out that the best thing to do is have Mark get her out of her crib when she wakes up, because if I'm the first one she sees, it's all over.

Awwww! What is it about little boys?? All I have to do is look at mine a certain way and he knows what I'm feeling. He says "I'll still be your baby when I get big, Mom, don't worry. I'll always love you."
