I need your help!

(And not just to vote for me for best Milwaukee blog, though that'd be nice too.)

What in the WORLD is this?!?

Mother's Day plant

I mean, don't get me wrong. Whatever the heck it is (a giant blade of grass?) its freakin' beautiful.

Mother's Day plant (close up)
Just look at that mug in a flower on a stick.
A-freakin'-dorable.

Its my Mother's Day gift from Nick. They planted it in preschool and of course they told the parents who were picking up kids (mostly the Mommies) what they planted.

But that's a detail. Daddies aren't always so good with the details. (Don't get me wrong - Daddies who pick up kids from preschool and aren't completely anti-social with the Mommy crowd pretty much rock it hard.)

So we sorta figured we'd just water it and give it sun and see what would bloom.

Its been, what? Two weeks? And no flower. But we had to move it to a new pot tonight cuz its more than two feet tall!

I can tell you it grows from a bulb - anyone know what the heck it is?!?

Hey hun, the name the algebra teacher gave sounds like what the preschool teacher said.

Daddies and details- same thing here.
I'll agree and say its probably an iris or a lily.

Gladiola. I also showed it to two other avid gardeners and they agree.

Plant it in full sun and enjoy it when it blooms.

I keep voting and you keep going backwards... maybe I shouldn't vote for you anymore. :)

That is a Crab Grass/Rhubarb mix - very rare, and tasty as well. As you may have guessed. I have no idea.

No idea (Black thumb, here), but it's the sweetest thing that looks like it'll topple over at any minute ;).

It looks like a back scratcher!!!! I was going to say bamboo but nope.

OK if they are going to have the kids make you a present they need to send home instructions for what the hell to do with the plant and ID it. ;)

I got one too!!! Same state, different school. It is a gladiola. Put it in the ground. It won't do anything this year, but may flower next year...at least that's what I was told? What a sweet, sweet gift.
