I'd have to say it was a good day...

WOO HOO, BAY-BEE! I'm a finalist! (Or, should I say Nick is...?) Either way, go vote for us over at 5 Minutes for Mom. You know he's the cutest kid there anyway...#15. Vote. Now. 'kay, thanks.

brrr
Its cold here. BRRRR!

Yesterday I had one of those rare afternoons with my kids where everything was just ON.

Jay & I did our usual "car swap"* around 3:30 p.m. and I headed to Menards to pick up a Christmas decoration thingie (its official term) that's on sale this week. Nothing makes my boys happier than to walk up and down every row in the holiday decoration department, looking at the trees and Santas and light up manger scenes, and I'm happy to oblige them. Its free and about 70 degrees inside the store. Mommy WIN.

From there, we headed next door to the grocery store to pick up a few needed items. Now, if anyone can explain to me how a few items never costs less than $50, I will kiss you and hug you and call you George. Cuz I certainly don't understand the phenomenon. I successfully bribed my children with chocolate milk and with the exceptions of Nick almost getting hit by some crazy lady's cart 12 times when he ran ahead and wasn't listening {*cough*I'mThatCrazyLady*cough*} we were in and out none the worse for wear. And home by 5 p.m. Double Mommy WIN.

I made a nice, healthy dinner of baked fish (caught on our MN trip, natch), cheesy rice and sugar snap peas. And the boys devoured it. And by devoured it I mean that Will ate all the meat and surprisingly, the rice, and Nick ate all the veggies and some of the rice and I had to beg, plead and then threaten him {There are ELVES watching!!!} to get him to eat some of the fish. But that's par for the course for them. I just actually got MMMMMs and YUMMY!s from them both. Triple Mommy Win.

I have made it exceptionally clear here on my blog that I am no domestic goddess. I would love to be one, but time and time again I try and fail, or try my ass off to end up mediocre. And I'm fine with that. But when I had the kids in PJs last night by 6:30 p.m., after doing all of the above? I was ready to push my limits - spread my wings - go that extra mile. {Have I missed any cliches? Nope. Kthxbai.}

We made cookies.

Peanut butter cookies.

And they were awesome.

So what if Betty Crocker did most of the work for me? I know my limits. Aside from Will grabbing the egg yolk out of the bowl, there was relatively little mess, and the entire prep time lasted 10 minutes. Just about the length of their attention span for such projects. And 15 minutes after that? We were enjoying warm peanut butter cookies with milk. SUPER MOMMY WIN.

Soon they were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of peanut butter cookies danced in their heads. I actually only had to go into their room and re-tuck them in ONCE. ONCE. I'm sure it had more to do with the fact that there was less chaos in our house last night than anything else - I was more at ease so they were, too.

Now, there's no way I could possibly keep up this 'sha-rahd' but I sure as hell can try!

MOMMY ALWAYS WINS! {Ha-ha, ha-ha, ha-ha...OK, stop laughing now...}

Have you had any Mommy WIN lately?

*My hubs & I work opposite shifts so that one of us is always home with our kiddos. It makes us both half crazy, but we're determined to be there for our kids.

Dude you were rockin' the Mom shift. I tend to have those days when the husband is out of town. For some reason I'm just more efficient when he isn't around. Man, that sounds bad. I didn't mean it that way. Ok, I'm going to shut up now...

Yay! I love looking back on the day and feeling happy about how it went. It's a great feeling, and I think that too often, moms don't think about the successes of each day. You should totally keep this post in mind when you have a day like that *one* a few weeks ago...
(sorry to bring it up: ha ha)
