O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum...

I was flipping through some old photos the other day and realized most were taken on holidays, Christmas and Easter mainly. I mean, before digital, film was pricey and you didn't just go taking pictures of just anything.

The other theme I noticed? Really REEELY bad Christmas trees. Some of them made me laugh out loud. But first, our super-pretty, pre-lit, comes-in-three-pieces-and-you-just-let-the-branches-fold-out tree.

2008 Christmas Tree
What you can't see in this picture?
The zip ties we needed to keep the star standing up on top. Heh.
Shhh...don't tell me its still crooked. I might not notice.

Now -- on with the show! I have no idea what years these were from, in most cases even who's trees they were, but I'm sure you'll do some, "Oh YEAH!" and "Oh my!"ing with me.

tree6
The "icicle tinsel" tree

tree5
Uber-skinny brown ornament tree

tree4
Dark gold tinsel tree (and little me trying to open some toy)

tree2
The "cross-hatch tinsel" tree
(and my brother Al, who later went on to fall off the roof)

tree1
The "I think a fish is coming out of the top" tree
Last, but certainly not least:
tree3
The "WHAT IN THE HECK?!?" tree
Its kinda built like one of those women who are all tiny and petite
on top and then, BAYUM, all bedonka-donk on the bottom.
Yellow is NOT my color.

Now those are some serious trees. I have to question the method of decoration in one or two but everyone has their own ideas I guess!

I do love your one this year though. It's beautiful! I wish I had space for a big one like that and I also wish I could place presents under the tree without dogs eating them!

Too funny! I can remember when our trees looked like that! We always had real trees with icicles AND tinsel! I need to find some of those pictures.

Thanks for the memories!

My very favorite is the last one with the hunk out of the top left side! Your tree this year wins for best tree you've ever had, and its not too crooked! Merry Christmas!

Loving your tree! Can't wait until the moving van gets here next week with all of our stuff - including the tree that needs to get put up soon!

You are so right about pictures in the past. I *love* the whole digital camera thing because you can afford to take as many shots as you want of anything. I've become better at taking pictures because of it since practicing is OK.

Such fun old shots, too. :) I'm definitely more in the spirit now.

Your tree is fabulous! And yes, I have seen many of those trees in my past as well. How I remember the icicle tinsel trees! You'd find that dreaded stuff all over the place!

Your current tree is lovely! My parents didn't take many pictures when I was growing up, but I expect our trees were ever bit as creative as yours. I remember tinsel everywhere, still love that stuff but my cats will eat it. One year we did angel hair. Looks great but makes your hands and arms itch for days.

Ah, garland and tinsel--my husband's family still swears by it but I? Refuse.
Your pictures bring back great memories though.

Stop the Christmas tree madness! I'm so impressed you could dig all those out.

And Colleen -- sit down -- I have my star zip tied to my tree too! Those things are AWESOME! I always have zip-ties on hand for everything. That and duct tape.

Enjoyed the blast through the past with your trees. Yeah, the one with the silvery tinsel garland made me chuckle a bit, I confess.

You done good this year!

Merry Christmas!
