Wheat bread and two inappropriate men

This weekend, hubs and I tackled project number one of 3,682. We painted the kitchen.

It took a lot more work than you'd think, as we live in a halfway-ancient house with old plaster walls - none of which are square, or level, or without cracks. We call it character.

Much patching and sanding had to be done and the ceiling itself soaked up two full coats. (When you haven't painted said old, dry plaster in 8+ years, you'll have that.)

Now, I'm a "color girl". But in an effort to go neutral (they say its easier for potential buyers to envision themselves living in the space or some such crap) we went with a lovely little color called wheat bread.

Burlap sack is more like it.

Its lovely, really, it looks much better than the dingy old walls used to. Now, on to project #2. Only 3,681 to go.

Oh, and did I mention? We're meeting with a realtor on FRIDAY!!!

Whoo to the freakin' hoo, y'all.

Now...that being said. I am horrible at taking before and after project shots. I tend to jump into projects as soon as I possibly can and when I stop for breath halfway through I go, "Huh. Might be nice to compare this with how it used to look."

That's when I caught THIS video. I honest and truly pulled out the ol' flip video cam to sweep around the room, do a quick little "See Dick & Jane paint" type thing for our personal home vids. (Hey, not everything is blog-worthy material.)

But my husband is, like, 12 years old.

That's why I love 'im folks.

One last thing. I never did announce my book winner. Hands down, the winner was Roger with this comment:
Your hair smells great. Wanna get naked?
Please don't let your husband come down and kick my A$$. :)

Rog, I sure hope like hell you got your lovely wifey somethin' nice for Valentine's Day. That woman is a saint.

I saw your link on Blissfully Domestic.

You have a cute site. Good job on picking a neutral color. I splurged and painted my kitchen a merlot color, and I LOVE it. But, it'll be a pain for the new owners (down the line) to paint over. Oh well.

Painting is a TON of work. We have an old house on the eastside and it was covered in wallpaper (ugggggh). Now all we really have left is the kitchen - victory is in sight. :) Congrats on making progress!

Great tackle! My whole house needs painting. We are going to tackle the living room in March. Hopefully:-)

Ugh! As "professional movers" we've had our fair share of "things to do before selling a house". Funny how we never get to those things until we decide to sell! It's always a bit sad to me to do so much work, actually like the way the house is looking, and then have to move and start all over! I'm especially fond of how the house looks after we "de-clutter" (i.e. rent an extremely expensive POD and get all of the extraneous crapola out of the way). It's so refreshing to live like neat people for a while : )

Good luck to you guys on your to-do list!
