Its 11:49 p.m. I am finally in my room, in my jammies, and the bed is calling my name. That bitch.
After leaving my room around 8:15 this morning, I spent no more than 10 - 15 minutes at a crack up here. We jokingly call this hotel the "biodome" but what was first freakish (an "indoor outdoors") is now hella-cool (constantly 72 deg though it looks as though you're outside, in Dallas...in August).
At one point during the day, I ran up here to freshen up a bit and grab a few essentials, when I walked out the door and had a second thought.
"Self," I thought, "what if you get carded, at this evening's festivities, 23.4 miles away on the opposite side of campus? You might want to take your ID with you."
"Self," I thought, "that's probaby a pretty freakin' good idea."
So I walked myself back down the hall from the elevator, and seeing that my next session started in seven minutes on the other side of planet earth, I rushed into the room, practically jogging.
Which is a bad idea in heels, when you're not such a coordinated person, and you don't know the layout of said hotel room cuz you've been in it, awake, for all of 4.17 minutes.
I cracked. My leg. On the footboard. Of the bed.
Expletives that I long ago forgot about came streaming out of my mouth. In rapid succession.
I immediately reached down and felt my poor leg, and an egg the size of a golf ball stood out immediately. (Why are they always golf ball sized? I guess I'm just thankful this one wasn't the size of a grapefruit. Golf balls and grapefruits - those are pretty much your only size-comparison objects, apparently.)
With golf ball sized lump, I hobbled back to the conference center and spent another five hours shmoozing and woozing it up (yes, yes, boozing, too). Tomorrow promises to be a shorter day, and my speaking engagement is for 9 am. After I cross that lil' baby off my "to do" list, its smooth sailing!
I think I may even book an appointment for a massage in the spa!
Update: I finally have a break from the conference and want to share that my presentation was very well received this morning. Audience participation was great (not too many questions, not too little) and I can now breathe a sigh of relief. I made it through without looking like an ass! Now...to call and book that spa appointment...

Gosh! That sounds terrible! I hope your leg gets better tomorrow!
get a massage or a pedi!
ouch! Funny that. This room we are in now has a metal bar sticking out from the bed which is just asking to be tripped up over or banged against. I'd def go for a massage. He'll I'd have a massage nekked in the street these days. Hope today is better
OUCH!!
I hope you get to that massage as soon as you can!
Get the massage! You know you want it....
I can't believe I'm saying this (being a massage therapist,) but I would go with a pedicure. Your feet have been squeezed into heels for days and you have probably been standing around a lot.
You're right about the golf balls. Get better soon...
Ahhhh, why does that always happen? I cracked my knee getting into a ride with the buddies at the amusement park Saturday. My knee now looks like a five year olds, lol.
Ouch ouch ouch! I am always doing stuff like that. Enjoy your conference and be careful. You can see my tackle when you get some free time.
ack! hope you feel better!
Ouch! I hope your golf ball lump goes away. I just thought I'd check in on ya, since I haven't been reading many blogs lately.
I second the pedicure! They are heavenly!

Sorry about the leg...Congrats on the presentation:)
Ouch! Sorry about the leg, but I'm glad to hear your presentation went well. I think I'd be afraid of too many questions I couldn't answer and be all "Um...yeah...well...ah" and sound like a total idiot.
Congrats on the presentation going great..
Though all this post made me do was hold my leg and feel for your pain..
JIC
Sorry about your leg! Sounds like you deserve a massage AND a pedi!!
Glad to hear that the presentation went well. Ouch on the golf-sized bump.. I hope you got a massage in. OMG, the stress.
But the one thing, don't you find that it's sorta nice travelling on business ... when you only have yourself to shower and get ready at almost a leisurely pace? Alas, just memories for me now...
Glad to hear it all went well (except for the leg thing!
