Weekly Winners - July 20 - 26, 2008

I had a reason to be in the neighborhood where I grew up the other day.

Sad...I used to swim here every day in the summer as a kid.

I seem to like gnarly trees - looking at this now I should tweak the contrast a bit, but hindsight is 20/20.

So how did you feel seeing all your old places again? I did the same only with the place where my Nana and Grandad lived - I would spend a month every summer there.

It was much more run down than I realised and everything seemed much smaller than I remembered.

In some ways I wish I'd never returned, just kept the memories I had.

Lovely pictures. The one of the empty swimming pool made me sad. I remember going back to one of my old neighbourhoods and see a couple of old haunts all dismantled and empty. Made me cry.

I forgot we lived in the same town... I was like OOH, someone else has pool problems and OOH there is a German Fest in other cities... hahaha

I thought they raised enough funds to fix up that pool last year? So sad..

Going back to where I grew up can be kind of bittersweet, and I really *love* the way you captured that first shot and how the effects create a mood. Really awesome.

Very evocative images, and I didn't even grow up there!

Know what you mean about the bittersweetness. Wonder what our current haunts will look like when our kids come back and visit in future years? (Of course there will be the new the parks named in honor of our superior mothering skills.... ;) )
